Netholi Anchovi Peera. Netholi Peera Vattichathu / Netholi Thoran is a traditional Kerala dish made with small fish named Netholi. Netholi fish is also known as podimeen in some parts of Kerala. So this recipe is also called as podimeen peera pattichathu / vattichathu.
Add half cup water and mix well. Open and cook uncovered for a few minutes until most of the water is evaporated. Place an earthen pot or kadai over low flame. You can have Netholi Anchovi Peera using 10 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you achieve that.
Ingredients of Netholi Anchovi Peera
- It's 500 gm of Anchovy fish(netholi).
- You need 1/2 cup of grated coconut.
- You need 4-5 of green chillies.
- Prepare 6-8 of shallots.
- It's 1 tsp of ginger.
- It's 1/2 tsp of Turmeric powder.
- Prepare as needed of Coconut oil.
- You need to taste of Salt.
- It's 2 tsp of Curry leaves.
- Prepare 2-3 of Kokum.
Add in the prepared coconut masala, cleaned anchovies, mango pieces, gambooge (see notes), curry leaves and combine well. Add enough water to cook the anchovies. One of my favorite anchovy/ netholi recipe is a very famous traditional Kerala fish recipe, meen peera patichathu, fish covered in a coarse coconut mixture with a little tanginess of Gambodge/ Kudampulli added to it. It can be a dry fish side dish or a main course food item.
Netholi Anchovi Peera instructions
- Crush shallots,ginger,green chillies and coconut.
- Clean the anchovies and put them in a clay pot.To this add turmeric,salt,kokum and chillies..
- Add crushed coconut mixture to this and mix everything well.add a little of coconut oil to this and mix..
- Cook them under medium flame till all it's water content is gone and the fish is cooked perfectly.sprinkle with curry leaves.serve with hot rice..
It goes awesome with simple boiled rice not Basmati though and that's exactly the way I enjoy every bit of it.
